Put Carbs in Your Corner

if you’re like me, you’ve heard a lot of ideas around carbohydrates and your diet. Are they a great source for energy, or a way to unwanted weight? Let’s find out!

The first question is: What kind of carbs are we talking about? As stated by Thyroid and Holistic Health Expert Andrea Beamann, “Chances are, if you are eating grains that are NOT properly prepared they can be damaging your body.” lt’s agreed by many professionals that “carbs” have gotten a bad wrap and some myths may be better off dispelled. Sooooo…What’s a good carb vs. a bad one?


Simple Carbs

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Most syrups
  • Fruit juices( lemon and lime)
  • Starches (potato and corn)
  • White rice

Complex Carbs

  • Beans and lentils
  • Whole Grains (brown rice, quinoa, amaranth, freekeh, buckwheat, oats and more!)
  • Most vegetables

When I compare these two lists, it becomes obvious: The Simple Carbs list includes ingredients found in processed foods, and the items in the second list ARE the ingredients. Stated by Diagnosis Diet, ”Refined carbohydrates are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing risky spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. Most common chronic diseases of Western Civilization have been tied to these types of (deliciously addictive) carbohydrates, therefore it is wise to keep them to a minimum.” So it breaks down to basically this: Processed foods are not so good, whole foods are. What an easy way to remember which foods to avoid and which to embrace. Right?
